Ar. Tan Teck Kiam

Registered Architect, Board of Architects, Singapore Corporate Member, Singapore Institute of Architects

Bachelor of Architecture (Hons), National University of Singapore, 1983. Postgraduate study in Urban Development Planning at the University College, London in 1985.

A registered architect based in Singapore, Teck Kiam has extensive working experience ranging from master planning to architecture and commercial interior design in Asia and Australia. He is active in academia, having taught at National University of Singapore as an Associate Professor (Practice). He has also served as a visiting external reviewer at Hong Kong University, and has lectured in London and Taipei. Teck Kiam has also actively contributed to public and private institutions, serving as an Art Advisory Committee Member at the Singapore Management University from 2007 to 2008 and on the Architectural Design Review Panel at the Singapore Land Transport Authority from 2014 to 2016. At the Singapore Island Country Club, Teck Kiam has served on SICC Projects Committee from 2015 to 2017. Prior to establishing KNTA Architects, Teck Kiam worked 10 years for Mr. William SW Lim, a renowned Singaporean urban planner and architect, after graduating from National University of Singapore in 1983.


In 1993, Teck Kiam founded KNTA Architects. In the ensuing years, KNTA Architects won numerous awards in Singapore, including first prize for the Singapore Management University Urban and Architectural International Design Competition in the year 2000, and the subsequent appointment of architect to lead and execute the design of 5 out of 6 SMU campus buildings in Bras Basah. Teck Kiam is also the recipient of the Singapore Institute of Architects Design Awards – Honourable Mention for “Check House I” and “House at Jalan Jambu Ayer” in 1995. He has also received an Honorary Mention for his masterplanning concept proposal for Paya Lebar Airbase in the Runway for Your Imagination Competition in 2020, and an Honorary Mention for his proposal for Parasitic Architecture Competition in 2020 as well.


In the last decade, Teck Kiam has shifted his focus to master planning and urban design, conducting urban and architectural Design Studio at the National University of Singapore 2012 to 2018. These works include planning and urban design in the new economy, creating sustainable and smart precincts. In 2020, his team won Honorary Mention in an urban design competition for the Redevelopment of Singapore Paya Lebar Airbase under his leadership. From 2018 to 2020, he has also worked as a sub-consultant to Surbana Jurong Consultants Pte Ltd for several master planning projects in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Teck Kiam is currently also a design director at Cendes+TENarchitects & Planners Pte Ltd, an architectural company specialising in smart and green urban planning and design, working on projects that focus on future-proofing master plans and urban design in China and the rest of Asia.
